Autonagar Surya - Movie Review

Director Deva Katta's latest directorial venture Autonagar Surya starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha in the lead roles, is one of the most-awaited Telugu films. The movie, which has been delayed for long time due to financial problems, has released in a large number of theatres across the globe. The long wait is worth it as the movie has come out very well on screen. Naga makes sure to rock the viewers.

Autonagar Surya is a political thriller movie with high entertainment quotient. Naga Chaitanya's performance is the main highlight in the film. Deva Katta's engrossing screenplay and punch dialogues, Anoop Rubens' music, Srikanth Naroj's cinematography, Brahmanandam-Venu's comedy timing, well-choreographed action and dance sequences are other attractions in the film. A few predictable scenes and wrong placement of songs in the first half are big drawbacks.

Deva Katta has chosen a routine story, but created a brilliant screenplay for the movie Autonagar Surya. The director, who holds an M Sci degree in Mechanical Engineering, deals with the story of an aspiring mechanic, who produces innovative cars. Besides adding all mass masala elements, he also tries to throw light on current political practices in the state especially during the elections.

The movie opens with the introduction of Naga Chaitanya's character, who rocks the viewers with a punch dialogue. The story is average in the first half of the film and the placement of a couple of song is wrong and they come as speed breakers to the narration. The movie picks up a momentum with the rain fight scene at the interval bang. The second half of the film is very engaging and entertaining. However, the climax is weak, it should have been better.

Surya (Naga Chaitanya) is an orphan child. After losing his parents in a train accident, he grows up in the motor field area of Auto Nagar and becomes a mechanic at an early age. He succeeds in his profession, but he lands in problems with Indra (Madhu) and his gang (Ajay and Jaya Prakaash Reddy), who pocket the hard-earned money of people in the disguise of a union. How Surya fights against the system will form the crux of the movie.

Naga Chaitanya, who has shown lot of improvement with each of his movies, has delivered brilliant performance in Autonagar Surya. He rocks the viewers with his dialogue diction, action and dance moves. He is treat to watch on screen. Samantha has also done justice to her role and her chemistry with Naga is good on screen. Brahmanandam and Venu Madhav tickle the funny bones of the viewers with their comedy timing.

Rakul Preet Singh has small screen presence in Autonagar Surya and she manages to rock the viewers in this short span. Others like Jayaprakash Reddy, Sai Kumar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Tanikella Bharani, Ajay, MS Narayana, Jeeva, Brahmaji and Raghu Babu have done justice to their respective roles in the movie.

Autonagar Surya has superb production values and Anoop Rubens' music is the main highlight in the technical front. His soundtracks are good to listen, but placement of a couple of them is not good. His background score is also brilliant. Srikanth Naroj's camera work is another big attraction of the film. Raju Sundaram's dance moves, action choreography, dialogues, editing, art direction and selection of costumes and locales are also commendable.

Overall, Autonagar Surya has a simple and routine story, but it is the director's treatment of the subject that makes the film a good entertainer. Naga Chaitanya rocks the viewers with his heroism.
