    Shanghai revolves around politics and how it impacts common man. The movie is based on the novel 'Z' by Vassilis Vassilikos.

    In Shanghai, Abhay Deol is playing the role of a powerful and egoistic IAS officer. Kalki Koechlin is playing Shalini, an emotional girl who has just passed her college and is going through a traumatic period in her life. The film also stars Emraan Hashmi, who will be seen playing the role of Joginder Parmar, a porn filmmaker. Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee is doing the role of social activist Doctor Ahemdi.


    A politically volatile state in India is gearing up for elections. A prominent and respected social activist Doctor Ahemdi blames the state government of acquiring huge real estate for the SEZ project without adequate compensation to the people living on it. Doctor Ahemdi meets with an accident during a public meeting. Shalini accuses that it was a conspiracy to kill Doctor Ahemdi. Joginder Parmar claims that he has proof related to this conspiracy that can bring the government down. A high ranking IAS officer is brought by the government to control the damage. These three protagonists come together to unravel the truth.

    Shanghai is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and the film is set to be released on June 8.
