Director
R.
Balki's
Ki
And
Ka
starring
Kareena
Kapoor
and
Arjun
Kapoor
is
about
a
couple,
breaking
the
gender
stereotypes.
Arjun
essays
the
role
of
a
doting
but
domestic
hubby,
while
Kareena
Kapoor
essays
the
role
of
a
career
oriented,
bread-winner
of
the
family.
Does
Balki
succeed
in
giving
this
message
of
"Break
The
Stereotype" or
does
this
film
end
up
being
one
of
those
films
that
are
hyped
up
for
media
but
have
no
real
deal
to
show
in
the
film?

Director:
R.
Balki
Ki
and
Ka
Plot:
The
film
revolves
around
two
people,
their
love
story
and
their
marriage.
Kia
(Kareena
Kapoor)
is
a
marketing
professional
who
works
in
a
big
company
and
is
the
bread-winner
while
Kabir
Bhansal
(Arjun
Kapoor)
is
the
son
of
a
rich
father
who
owns
a
lucrative
construction
business
and
his
ambition
in
life
is
to
be
like
his
mother,
a
housewife.
While
the
initial
courtship
period
is
all
cute,
the
real
story
begins
post
the
couple's
marriage.
This
marriage
is
quite
unique
with
Kia
tying
the
mangalsutra
to
Kabir,
she
goes
out
and
earns,
while
he
cleans
the
house,
cooks
and
does
everything
a
housewife
would
do.

every
week,
changes
the
entire
décor
of
the
house,
from
ethnic
to
trains
chugging
along
the
entire
house.
So
where
does
this
gender
swapped
roles
go
haywire?
Gotta
see
the
movie
to
know,
dear
audience!
Coming
to
the
negative
aspects
of
this
film,
the
problem
lies
in
the
writing
and
not
with
the
concept.
R.
Balki
struck
with
a
plot
of
gold
when
it
came
to
thinking
about
this
unique
concept
for
the
movie
but
he
failed
to
put
it
across
on
the
big
silver
screen.
R.Balki
is
a
filmmaker
who
has
broken
the
stereotypes
with
his
previous
films,
yet
in
this
we
see
him
incorporate
a
lot
of
clinched
ideologies
and
strays
away
from
what
he
had
began
the
story
with.
We
have
Kabir
doubting
his
wife's
character
for
she
was
spending
too
much
time
with
a
client
and
guess
where
the
argument
regarding
that
lands
them,
in
bed,
making
love
to
each
other.
Did
that
make
sense
to
you?
As
much
as
we
would
have
loved
Balki
to
come
with
a
non-stereotypical
story,
the
couples
end
up
having
problems
because
of
money.
Voila!
That's
new!
(Being
sarcastic
here...)
So,
how
does
this
couple,
deal
with
money
issues,
we
have
Kabir
giving
fitness
lessons
to
his
neighbours
for
some
cash.
We
have
an
unwanted
Dubai
trip
and
a
stereotypical
pregnancy
test
gone
wrong,
Bollywood
style.
Oh!
Ya!
Since
the
story
is
set
up
in
Delhi,
we
also
have
a
group
of
men
teasing
the
damsel
in
distress
on
an
empty
bus,
only
to
be
trashed
by
the
rugged
hero.
Amitabh
Bachchan
and
Jaya
Bachchan
are
wonderful
on-screen
but
do
they
serve
the
purpose,
not
at
all,
but
you'll
love
them
nonetheless,
especially
Big
B's
cute
antics.
Kia
and
Kabir,
like
any
other
regular
couple
have
petty
squabbles
over
silly
issues,
a
lot
of
jealousy,
money
issues
and
of
course,
both
fighting
for
spotlight.
(You'll
know
what
we
are
talking
about,
when
you
watch
the
movie)
This
film
has
lacked
big
time
in
the
writing
department,
Balki
should
have
worked
on
it
a
bit
more.
The
concept
is
fantastic
but
the
execution
was
lack-lustre.
Coming
to
the
performances,
Arjun
Kapoor
and
Kareena
Kapoor,
both
play
it
safe
and
don't
push
the
boundaries
and
test
their
acting
prowesses.
They
get
away
with
a
lot
of
cute
acting
in
the
beginning,
a
lot
of
kissing
in
between
and
some
more
kissing.
All
we
can
say
is
that
Kareena
and
Arjun
complemented
each
other,
it
took
a
little
time
but
the
couple's
chemistry
manages
to
sink
in.
Having
mentioned
many
negative
aspects
of
the
movie,
would
like
to
add
that
Ki
and
Ka
could
have
been
a
great
movie
like
Kapoor
And
Sons,
barring
some
major
flaws
but
it
is
definitely
not
in
the
bad
category.
Songs
are
super
catchy
and
the
film
is
a
decent
family
entertainer.
Verdict:
Ki
and
Ka
is
a
one
time
watch,
an
average
film
that
could
have
been
great.
Since
this
is
a
solo
release
this
week
and
you
don't
have
much
options,
we
suggest
the
couples
to
head
to
the
nearest
theatres,
watch
the
film,
to
have
a
new
take
on
life,
get
a
lesson
on
gender
inequality
and
to
learn,
how
to
appreciate
your
wives
and
mothers.
