Raju Murugan's 'Joker' Appreciated At Censor Board

Journalist-turned-director Raju Murugan of Cuckoo fame was apprehensive about how Censor Board would view his upcoming political satire Joker. As it turns out, not only was the film cleared with a clean 'U' certificate, it was also appreciated, according to a report.

"In the first place, we were apprehensive about getting the film cleared. Much to our surprise, we got a 'U' certificate with small cuts for violent scenes and cuss words. They also approved the idea that 'everyone should speak politics' which is the theme of the movie," Raju Murugan told Deccan Chronicle.

Raju has said, he was pretty sure that he wanted to direct a film based on contemporary politics.

"People are bold enough to discuss politics on social media, but it is not the same scenario in cinema. I took a clear call to make a film with a political backdrop and the result was 'Joker'. Artistes, basically, do their work and are apolitical," he has said.

Joker, which has been bankrolled by SR Prakashbabu and SR Prabhu is scheduled to release this Friday (August 12).
