The lovely Priya Anand is beyond any doubt, one of the most popular and talented actresses in South cinema today. The lovely lady enjoys a strong fan following thanks to her good looks, charming personality, gripping screen presence, impressive versatility as an actress and bindass nature. During her career, she has worked with some of the most popular young stars in the industry and this has established her as a force to be reckoned with.
At present, Priya is gearing up for the release of the big Malayalam film Kayamkulam Kochunni. And, as expected she is quite excited about the same. Today (August 17, 2018), as the lovely lady celebrates her birthday, here's an exclusive interview with her about Kayamkulam Kochunni and her love for Malayalam cinema.
While talking her decision to do Kayamkulam Kochunni, Priya said that she has always wanted to do a period film and took up the Nivin Pauly starrer in order to fulfil this cherished dream.
"Being part of a period movie has always been a dream for me. Kayamkulam Kochunni is based on a mythological character that appears in Amar Chitra Katha. So, it's a character people have grown up listening about. It also gave me the chance to work with talents like Rosshan Andrews and Nivin Pauly. Nivin Pauly is popular not just in Malayalam but also in the Tamil industry. Everyone associated with the film is a legend. And, in a way, the movie selected me," she added.
The actress added that she has an active imagination and this is why she is fond of mythology. She also made it clear that she has several favourites from mythology and added that Kochunni has become one of her favourites.
"I have an active imagination and have always mythological films as well as books. I love using my imagination to travel to a different era. History has so many characters that you really can't pick one character. However, after doing Kayamkulam Kochunni, I think the character is definitely one of my favourite characters from mythology," added the star.
Interestingly, the Ezra actress is quite happy about how women are portrayed in Malayalam cinema. Commenting on Mollywood giving us strong female characters, she said that the credit for this should be given to the audiences and the directors.
"I give credit to the audience as well as the film-makers. The Malayalam film industry is not one that looks for a glam doll or a girl who comes for a song and goes. The audience has a lot of expectations from the actresses. You have to be able to perform. The audience does not merely want fair and plumpy girls. The film-makers too cast the actresses on whether they suit the characters and not on market value," she added.
On a parting note, she said that she has a lot of big films lined up for release and hopes that they help her explore new avenues.
"Life does not work that way and you really can't plan things. However, I have some nice films releasing this year and I hope that with these good films a lot of good things open up for me in life," added Priya.
Well, we wish her a happy birthday and hope that she has a wonderful year ahead.
