Jilebi Movie Review: Sweet And Simple

Jilebi is a family entertainer which stars Jayasurya in the lead role. The movie is written and directed by debutant Arun Shekhar. Remya Nambeesan essays the female lead. Jilebi is produced by East Coast Vijayan under the banner East Coast.

Jilebi Plot

Sreekuttan (Jayasurya) is a villager who leads a peaceful life with his mother (KPAC Lalitha). He is a farmer by profession and has a deep passion for his profession. Due to some family issues, Sreekuttan is forced to take the responsibility of his nephew Paachu (Gaurav Menon) and niece Ammu (Sayuri), who resides in Dubai.

The kids are highly disappointed about leaving Dubai and wants to go back. They plot some plans and creates problems for Sreekuttan and others so that they can go back. Then, Sreekuttan decides to teach the kids a lesson, and this forms the crux of the story.

Jilebi Cast & Performance

Jayasurya plays Sreekuttan to near perfection. The actor shines with his natural performance as an innocent villager and astonishes with his impeccable comic timing.

The real stars of the movie are Gaurav Menon and Sayuri, who plays Sreekuttan's nephew and niece. The kids overshadow even the veteran actors, with their exceptional acting skills.

Remya Nambeesan convincingly plays Shilpa, the mother of Paachu and Ammu. The rest of the cast including KPAC Lalitha, Vijayaraghavan, Shari, Dharmajan, Sasi Kalinga, Master Minon etc have done complete justice to their roles.

Script And Direction

Jilebi is scripted and directed by newcomer Arun Shekhar. He makes a fantastic debut and proves that he is here to stay.

The movie is a complete family entertainer, which depicts the highs and lows of family relationships. The director has managed to maintain the fun element throughout the film.

Technical Aspects

Alby Antony handles the cinematography of the movie. He scores with the colorful visuals which perfectly depicts the beauty of village. Editing by Sooraj ES is up to the standards.

Songs And Background Score

Bijibal, the National award winning musician has composed songs and background score for the movie. Songs are rally impressive and striking; especially, the song Njanoru Malayali.

Background score completely sinks in with the mood of the movie; thus creating a perfect mood.
