9 Times Hollywood Copied Bollywood Movies

Bollywood industry has long been seeking inspiration from it's Hollywood counterparts so it came as good surprise when I learnt that many Hollywood makers have been keeping a close tab on the Bollywood industry as well.

Bollywood film fraternity has sought Hollywood inspiration in songs, movies, posters and many such things so it's nice to see Hollywood makers seeking inspiration from us every once in a while.

We have been doing features where we showed you copied posters from Hollywood or movies which were inspired from Bollywood but very rarely have we covered them copying us. Many Hollywood singers did copy our songs as well, like when Will.I.Am collaborated with Cody Wise for It's My Birthday song which was inspired from Prabhudeva's famous song Urvasi Urvasi.

Today we will be exposing Hollywood cheating side, when they very sneaking took our plot and story lines and remade it with a snazzy name and revamped the desi version to that of the western one.

Speaking on the topic, we know how Raj Kapoor was a famous icon, much before Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai became the face of Bollywood, it was Raj Kapoor who had a huge fan base in Russia and other foreign countries as well.

His movies became cult movies with foreigners getting addicted to them. So much was his craze that Hollywood makers sought inspiration from his Sangam movie and made a revamped western version in 2001. While the backdrop of the story may be different, you would see a lot of similarities in the plot and love triangle angle and anybody who is a Raj Kumar fan can identify the similarities.

I have listed down 6 such occasions when Hollywood makers made films with striking similarities to Bollywood movies. Check out the feature below to know which of our movies have been copied...

Leap Year-Jab We Met

Leap Year-Jab We Met

The storyline of Leap Year is very similar to that of Jab We Met. In Leap Year the girl sets out on a road trip to propose her boyfriend, on the way she meets a man with whom she shares a room and eventually ends up falling in love with him. Sounds like a western version of our desi Jab We Met story.

Nine years after the release of Rangeela, Hollywood makers decided to revamp the story and make Win A Date With Tad Hamilton with a very similar storyline.

Pearl Harbor-Sangam

Raj Kapoor had fans all over the world, he was one of the first Bollywood actors to have a fan base in Russia and most of the foreign countries so it doesn't come as a surprise that 2001 Hollywood flick has a similar love triangle as shown in Sangam.

Delivery Man-Vicky Donor

Delivery Man-Vicky Donor

Those of you who have seen these two films will see the striking similarities in the plot of these two movies, a sperm donor with a number of children. Since the Hollywood flick released a year later, we assume it took inspiration from Vicky Donor.

A Common Man-A Wednesday

A Common Man-A Wednesday

A Wednesday directed by Neeraj Pandey was a brilliant cinema. So there was no surprise or shock value when we learnt that Hollywood makers sought inspiration from this movie to make A Common Man starring Ben Kingsley.

Fear-Darr

Fear-Darr

Darr, 1993 film of Shahrukh Khan is one of the best Bollywood movies. This film saw SRK makes his best performance ever and so within three years, in 1996, Hollywood makers sought inspiration and made Fear, which is the literal translation of Darr.

Just Go With It-Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya

The 2011 Just Go With It movie is very similar to that of the 2005 Salman Khan film, the reason being both are inspired from Cacturs Flower, a 1969 movie but with different story line.

Kill Bill-Abhay

Kill Bill-Abhay

We are not accusing anything here, but the director of Kill Bil, Quentin Tarentino himself told Anurag Kashyap that many action scenes in his movies were inspired from Kamal Haasan's Abhay movie which released in multiple languages.
