Dalip Tahil: Was Told To Tear A Girl's Clothes For A Rape Scene & Not Tell Her; I Flatly Refused

Dalip Tahil shared about an incident that happened 25 years ago where a director asked him to tear off a girl's clothes without her consent for a rape scene and how he flatly refused to do so.

The ongoing #MeToo movement in Bollywood has opened a can of worms with several women coming forward and shaming personalities like Sajid Khan, Nana Patekar, Anu Malik, Vikas Bahl, Anirban Blah, Kailash Kher and others for sexual harassment.

Recently while speaking to Hindustan Times, veteran actor Dalip Tahil shared about an incident that happened 25 years ago where a director asked him to tear off a girl's clothes without her consent for a rape scene and how he flatly refused to do so-

Dalip told Hindustan Times, "Twenty-five years ago, I was doing a similar scene. It was one of those movies that had a rape scene. The director, whose name I won't take, actually told me, ‘When you're doing the scene, tear the girl's clothes apart, do this and that, but we won't tell her.' I flatly refused!'

He further revealed, "I said, Dalip ‘This is such an immoral thing to do.' The girl was new, and she had to make a living. I went in the opposite direction: I called the girl and said, ‘Do you know this is what they're planning to do?' The director was aghast and almost ran away. The girl was so upset, she burst into tears and ran into a room."

Recently, the actor made headlines for filming a female actor's consent before shooting a rape scene for a web series. He said that this isn't something he has done in the wake of the MeToo wave but in fact, had he done it 25 years ago.

However, he revealed that he later spoke to the girl and somehow convinced her to shoot the scene by explaining what would happen in it.

He further added, "In the past also, I've never really been [a] part of it or agreed with it, but there's only that much I can do about it. I'm a part of a movie; I'm not the director or the producer. I sure have seen exploitation at every level, and not just sexual. Workers being exploited, their living conditions, people having to work for up to 20 hours without rest, no allowance, the food is awful. With the new generation of filmmakers, I'm happy and relieved to say the atmosphere is much better."
