Renowned
American
actress
and
producer
Viola
Davis
there
is
a
need
for
urgent
change
in
Hollywood
over
the
aspect
of
gender
representation
and
diversity.
And
she
thinks
this
change
can
only
be
brought
through
"individuals
contributions."
Viola
Davis
points
out
that
it
is
imperative
to
raise
the
number
of
films
with
coloured
or
non-white
actors
in
the
lead.
And
this
will
only
be
possible
if
every
individual
from
the
likes
of
studio
officials
to
the
viewers
come
forward
for
the
cause.
"People
talk
about
diversity
and
why
are
the
Oscars
so
white?
And
what's
missing
is
the
individuals'
contribution
to
changing
it,
you
can't
change
it
without
putting
down
your
money
to
go
and
see
one
of
those
'so
called'
diverse
movies".
Said
Davis.
"And
you
can't
change
it
if
you're
a
studio
executive
and
you're
not
green
lighting
those
stories.
Because
the
talent
is
out
there
and
the
voices
are
out
there," Davis
further
added.
Viola
Davis
also
stated,
she
feels
happy
for
the
fact
that
her
talent
as
an
actress
has
been
spotted
and
she
has
been
acknowledged
as
an
actress
in
Hollywood
despite
the
fact
that
she
is
a
dark
woman
and
also
doesn't
bear
the
looks
of
a
typical
Hollywood
star.
"I'm
51,
I'm
an
African-American
actress
of
a
certain
hue
and
a
certain
size,
all
of
those
things,
and
I
know
I
definitely
would
not
have
reached
this
point
in
my
career
without
people
who
saw
vision
and
the
scope
to
see
my
talent
and
the
different
narratives
that
I
could
fit
into." Davis
added.
