Malayalam Cinema had witnessed 66 movie releases when 2015 is heading towards its second half. But among them, only 6 movies managed to perform really well and taste the success at the box office.
Even though many well-crafted movies were released this year, a very few of them were recognized by the audience and critics. It is highly disappointing that some extraordinary films went totally unnoticed.
Sand City, directed by actor-filmmaker Shankar Panicker was the first release of the year. The movie was a critical and commercial disaster. Lavender, directed by Altaf T Ali, is the latest release of the year. The movie, which has Rahman in the lead role, also went unnoticed.
Picket 43, the Prithviraj starrer movie directed by Major Ravi is the first profitable venture of the year. The movie was widely praised by the audience and critics. It earned a decent box office collection as well.
Mammootty and Nivin Pauly are the only stars who managed to deliver two box office successes this year. Mammootty had two releases so far and both the movies performed well at the box office.
Nivin Pauly, who had four releases, is the star of the year. Two of his films emerged as blockbusters. Premam, his recently released movie directed by Alphonse Puthren, has already emerged as one of the highest ever grosser of M'town. Oru Vadakkan Selfie, directed by G Prajith is also a blockbuster.
Fireman, directed by Deepu Karunakaran was the first Mammootty film which hit the theatres this year. Despite the lukewarm critical response, the movie performed really well at the box office. Bhaskar The Rascal, the Siddique directed Mammootty movie has also earned the blockbuster status.

The Nivin Pauly starrer movie directed by Alphonse Puthren has earned approximately 33.5 crores, when it completes 25 days at the BO. The team is yet to sell the television rights of the movie. Producer Anwar Rasheed's share is 15 crores.
Bhaskar The Rascal
The Mammootty-Siddique movie, which was made in a budget of 6.5 crores, made a gross collection of approximately 17 crores from the box office and earned 5.6 crores from Television rights. Producer's share is 9.8 crores.
Oru Vadakkan Selfie
The movie, which was made in a budget of 4.5 crores, collected almost 21 crores from the BO. Producer's share is 11.6 crores. The television rights are yet to be sold.
The Mohanlal starrer movie, directed by Sathyan Anthikad, was not well received by the critics. But the movie has definitely performed well at the box office.
Fireman, the Mammootty starrer movie directed by Deepu Karunakaran is another film which performed well at the box office. The movie also bagged a whopping amount as satellite and television rights.
Picket 43, the Prithviraj starrer movie, directed by Major Ravi is the first super hit of the year. The movie has made a profits from decent box office collections and satellite and TV rights.
